When I got up this morning to get the animals their medicines, the sky was pink from the sunrise. I thought it was supposed to rain today, but since it was clear, I asked the dog if she wanted to walk down to the lake. She danced around me with her tail wagging.
I took the medicine up to the rats to find George curled up in his box, barely responsive. When I took him out to see what was wrong, he had a seizure. I've now seen this several times and I recognize what it means.
I'm still torn between letting them pass on their own and having them put to sleep, but remembering how long it took Leather to die, I decided to take George to the vet for the shot. While we waited for them to open, I held George and looked out the window. It was gray and raining.
George barely opened his eyes until he got the shot, then he faded out.
The sun came out again while we were at the vet.
I'll take the dog for her walk now.
